The Bull on Syracuse University

college-photo_1561.Location: Syracuse, New York (240 miles from Montclair)
# of Undergrads Attending: 14,671
Percent Accepted: 51%
Most Popular Majors: Business Management, Communications, Visual and Performing Arts

What I Liked:

  • Offers nine different undergraduate schools and specific programs
  • Syracuse offers over more than 400 clubs and is a D1 sports school; students are given season passes to every home football, basketball and lacrosse game
  • The campus has a mix of old and new eclectic buildings which surrounds the open green quad
  • Has an entirely student run TV station, Citrus Orange, a student run newspaper, two radio stations and several student blogs
  • Food facilities include six residential dining centers, two food courts, and several cafes

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Freshman and sophomores are required to live on campus
  • The campus gets on average 120 inches of snow annually
  • The roommate selection process is completely randomized without any kind of survey/questionnaire
  • In the S.I. Newhouse of Communications, students are required to get a minor outside of that specific program; only 350 out of 5,000 students get into the Communications school

Seems like a great college for… those students who have a clear idea in what they want to study or huge sports fans
Something unexpected was… some introductory freshman classes have more than 600 students, but most classes cap at 16 students
